Draft beer versus bottled beer | 020.amsterdam

In Amsterdam there are a few good beer bars serving many different kind of beers, there's a great beer shop not far from The Royal Palace of Amsterdam on Dam Square and it's the hometown of Heineken. The beer culture is good. However good is not enough, if better is possible.

Draft beer tastes better?

Nowadays, people are asking what kind of draft beers are being served in the bar. Not knowing that they're herewith influencing the beer culture. Draft beers will become overvalued and the assortment of beers become smaller. Draft beer tastes better is a common opinion. But is it?

Let's have a deeper look into this matter. First of all, you should know that I love draft beer, just like bottled beers. But I also like a wide assortment and as you probably has experienced, the assortment of beers being served in the bars can be pretty boring sometimes.

Limited choices

The downside with draft beers is that the available choices are very limited. Most bars only have a few draft beers available and in most cases they all have chosen for the same and safest brands, resulting in a very flat beer assortment with hardly no significant differences between the bars. I'm not blaming the bar owners, as we can't expect them to serve many different draft beers simultaneously due to economical reasons.

What we can do

Take a look into it from a different perspective. Let's check what we can do to transform the beer culture. This situation is a respond on the consumer's wishes, so we can also change it. Next time, when you're in the bar, ask for the assortment of bottled beers. If more and more visitors will ask for bottled beers, the variety of available beers will grow. There's no doubt about that.
