Pray for Your Soul

The Amsterdam Dungeon is uniquely located within the neo-Gothic Nieuwezijds Kapel, built in 1912 on one of the city's most sacred sites. This is the historic location of the 'Miracle of Amsterdam' (1345), where a holy host was said to have survived a raging fire unsinged. To protect this monument, the entire attraction was constructed as a massive, removable structure inside the church. The original vaulted ceiling and pipe organ remain hidden behind the dark scenery, while archaeologists discovered hundreds of ancient tombstones beneath the floor; a grim reminder of the building’s long history as a place of burial.
